❝ This isn’t official procedure. ❞ Ghrian & whomever

tohellsguardandback:

“I doubt we have ever operated in an ‘official’ procedure.” Silene rolled one shoulder in an elegant half shrug that spoke of little care. “The truth of the matter is, however, that you are in desperate need of new clothing and that I would not have you suffer with Monsieur Soleil accompanying you or, Halone forbid, dressing you as he did with me.”

He handed her the dress that was by and large simple in its design and color. “But there will be no wearing armor at a ball.”

Her expression was flat and blank as she took the dress from him as others would a poisonous spider from a web, but he distinctly heard her mutter as he made her way to the dressing room-

“Okay, Feline.”

Noalliene-

I promised you regular updates while you are back in Gridania. I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits.

Life here at the Lotus inn has been quiet. Miss Mimimu Mimi has taken it upon herself to do some traveling during the seasons downtime to see lands she has been unable to explore due to limited funds. I will not admit to missing the constant verbal and physical spats she and Totoji Tasaji have whenever the two are present together, but I will say it makes for all too quiet an inn when they are not. She has chosen Gyr Abania as her first stop and sends Totoji Tasaji regular updates. His reactions to her pictures and her recently discovered joy of dresses and makeup are rather entertaining:

After she called to tell him about a waterfall she was challenged to jump from, he scoffed. “That seems like something stupid she would do.” Translated, “I wish I could be there to do it too.”

“I don’t have time to answer her calls!” Translated, “I secretly check all of my messages at night so as not to tarnish the idea of my hardened manly image because I actually miss her.”

My favorite so far has been after he received a rather lovely picture of Miss Mimi in a flowing silk dress. “There is no way this is her! Where’s all of the dirt?” Translated, “I like this picture and I’m too proud to admit it.”

I admire the stubborn lot that are lalafell.

Felore and Adrian are much the same. A recent shortage of mass produced fabrics in Uldah has taken Monsieur Soleil away for business and into the greater scrutiny of his parents as he assists them. Adrian does not express how often he misses his Fiance, but I have seen too many looks of longing from the Au Ra not to know better.

Adrian has been managing the physical aspect of the bakery while I manage the financial as always. At times when customers are slow to come or the baked goods in the cooler have dwindled he will allow myself and Rennes to take over kitchen duties while he rests. Our nights when the Lotus has closed its doors are spent in quiet solitude save for when he feels the need to seek me out for company. Last night we found ourselves in the upstairs ballroom where I taught him a new waltz. Aside from these lessons and our rare brushes against each other in the kitchens I still dare not touch him. He thinks I do not see how he flinches whenever I draw too close.

Naturally I do. Every time. The past can not be changed, and I can not stop being Ishgardian.

Ghrian is adapting well to her ‘security’ duties but not unlike myself prefers solitude and introspective silence when she is not on duty. I find her an intelligent and open minded individual and as sternly reluctant to change her wardrobe situation as I was when I first arrived. Oh how the tables have turned, oui?

My jaunts outside of Shirogane have actually allowed me to make a new…acquaintance. I do not yet know if there is comfort enough for me to call him a ‘friend’, though the promise of friendship is there. His name is Suna Lunares. Hs is an elezen like ourselves, though of a more Wildwood(ish) variety if we must assign him a bloodline. You would like him, Noalliene. He is not unlike yourself in many respects.

Come visit soon or call upon me if you wish.

Yours in friendship,

Ghrian-

This may entertain you, but I have no doubt it will surprise you.

The families of Ishgard all keep records of long passed family members. Despite the rather humble and murderous beginnings of the Charbonneau family line we are no exception.

The progenitor of my line was Sielle Charbonneau. He was a ‘denizen’ of the Brume that worked his way up from pilfering street urchin to one able to not only marry but provide his family a way to live by sheer will and ruthless determination. I shall leave the rather sordid affairs of his and his childrens rise to power out of this letter if it is all the same to you.

Sielle Charbonneau was in fact Duskwight not unlike yourself. He was one of the rare few Duskwight elezen that, aside from the rather more notable Dzmael family, managed to integrate himself into Ishgard before we ever closed our gates. While it is true that we have lost the ‘dusk’ of our progenitor in all ways but the raven black of our hair, it is still an interesting discovery none the less.

It make me curious as to other secrets that may be hiding in our family line what with the end of hostilities that were ever present during the Dragonsong war. There are no records as to the name of the woman that Sielle married and had a family with according to my research.

Who was she? Another Brume resident? A maid in a nobles household? A noble herself?

I may never know. I feel even if I did it would not altar who or what the Charbonneau family are today. This information may be of no use to you, but I found it interesting enough to share.

Wishing you well-

                 ~Silene Charbonneau
