I didnt wanna make this into a thing but due to no communication and paypal not helping me out…..

@pheberoni doesnt finish her commissions- Refuses to communicate. I paid her $150 over a year ago for art she never completed.

I made a post about this very thing a year ago! she had reached out to me asking me to take it down because it’d ruin her image if ppl saw her as a scammer… and then continued to take on more commissions (without finishing other batches) after doing so. the conversation felt very manipulative saying she considered me a friend, how could i do this to her, etc etc when we’ve only ever had business transactions or i gave her money throughout those years and never once developed an actual friendship?? and tbh i fell into the guilt even though she was the one who has been setting this image herself, let alone fucking over a ton of commissioners myself included. i had a few friends who commissioned her as well around the same time i did who had extremely long wait times, 0 responses, uncompleted work, etc. My commission took 9 months with periodic patient emails for months at a time asking for updates going without a reply from her as well.

i was her first commissioner back in 2014.. so idk it hit hard to be this disappointed in how she treats her followers and customers. i really loved her art and throughout the years supported her where i could when i had the money. don’t take your business with her, don’t trust her, she’s shady af, take your money elsewhere.

Yeah. This post is both vindicating and depressing, tbh. I thought my experience with this artist was a one-off. Apparently not, which is why I’m going to talk about it now.

I commissioned some OC art back in 2015, which, after months of waiting, ended up looking like a practice sketch. Typically, artists will post their commissions on their blog for exposure and let the commissioner rb from them. In this case, she told me straight up to post it on my own blog if I wanted it up, which, given the quality of the piece (or lack thereof) was unsurprising. I tried to address it politely (I used to be nice back then) and ended up just dropping it when she seemed not to understand what I was talking about.

Thing is, I had to save up to commission her. She was a very popular artist in the fandom I was in at the time, and I was so excited when she told me she would take on my project. When I finally got what she called the “final” piece, I was so disappointed I ended up not even posting it.

Judging by the art on her blog, she’s extremely talented. I was willing to pay her price, despite being higher than most artists taking commissions at the time, because I expected the same standard of work. That is not what I received at all, though, compared to other ppl’s experience, it seems I was fortunate to receive anything at all.

I was new to paying for commissions then, but I’ve paid for plenty of art since, so here’s a lesson I had to learn the hard way: if you’re looking to commission something, especially an expensive piece close to your heart, ask around. Get references from ppl who have received commissions from artists you’re considering. There are amazing, highly professional creative entrepreneurs on this site. I am all about supporting freelance artists, but unfortunately, I’ve had enough bad experiences, resulting in wasted money, time and effort with the added bonus of feeling heaps of anxiety over things that were supposed to cheer me up, that I have learned to be cautious.

If you’re an artist doing this to your commissioners, you don’t just hurt yourself. You make ppl wary of spending their precious rec money on commissions, which hurts other artists and makes fandom less enjoyable for everyone.

If you don’t want to do commissions, don’t. It’s that simple.

Reblogging this mostly for a friend, & I replied to it as well, but I had a nasty run-in with this artist a few years ago that gave me lasting anxiety attacks on this site at a time when my more active presence here was a very important part of my life, creatively and socially. So seeing their shitty, manipulative behavior finally get called out is wholly satisfying and, I can personally say, 100% accurate. Please commission artists more deserving of your hard-earned money who will give you a much better experience and product. (if you want specifics I can absolutely give them to you in DMs, it’s no secret at this point, I just see no reason to further elongate this post with them.)

i learned about pheberoni from my friend sarah a few years ago. im glad to see this post on my dash b/c as soon as i saw it i remembered some antiblack ( and also some generally really racist shit ) stuff pheberoni did and couldn’t tell if i was just mis-remembering them for somebody else or not but! turns out, i was not so check this out. don’t commission this person and stay safe out there guys!

edit: here’s the post she made talking about it too so you guys know it did actually happen

HEY ARTISTS!

girlwiththegreenhat:

Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:

OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDY–

There’s a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to I’m gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! 🙂
