Incredible work on mapping the ley lines of Azeroth. High-four to the creator of this!

Hi-res w/no text ->

I went looking for a nice ley line map and couldn’t find one, so I made one!

Notes:

  • Ley lines have been described as a web, an energy field, a vast net, the planet’s bloodflow, a system of fault lines, or a network of wells and rivers.
  • The ley lines did not exist before the Sundering.
  • All ley lines converge at Karazhan.
  • They are used in the creation of Moonwells.
  • Intersecting ley lines can create patterns that magically augment certain traits of those living around it. These patterns resemble a foreign alphabet, and are referred to as runes.

(Thanks to Ni and Isei for helping me out)

With Legion / Chronicle changes to note, Leylines have apparently existed prior the Sundering (not 100% confirmed, although Suramar does hint towards that, as they had leyline facilities prior to setting up the barrier which was set up during the War of the Ancients), and this is older lore, but during the Nexus War, all Leylines/leyline energy was redirected to the Nexus (which was already a place most, if not all the leylines already met at as well).

And there’s also the various moonwells and minor sources of power to add to the Broken Isles (not the Nightwell, since it was destroyed).

Compendium of Light: Honoring the Sunwell

You should never forget to honor the Sunwell. This is, at the very least, the most polite thing you should do as an elf- Whether you call yourself Quel’dorei or Sin’dorei- you should honor the Sunwell. Our birth rite is the arcane and the Light that it gives us. The Sunwell is more than any one elf- more glorious, more powerful, and more beautiful- and this should be recognized.

If you can make the trip to Quel’danas yourself you can watch her Priests and guardians as they repeat their prayers and rituals. To watch them perform them is ecstatic and after is normally followed by a period of silent contemplation.

Not everyone, but some will offer their own prayers or gifts up to the Sunwell. When I visited last there were a few scattered areas where gifts of coin, mana crystals, and gems were left. I’ve also seen memorials to the fallen there, statues and graveyards for the dead. Even bricks around the memorials will have names. They often went like this:

[name] Dedicates this in [name]. May he/she/they walk forever in the light of the sun.

Or

Dedicated in remembrance/honor to [name] who sacrificed their life for their people.

If you cannot make the trip to Quel’danas there are many memorials and small areas where you can see the Sunwell. My favorite one lies at the docks where the boats can take you to Quel’danas. A statue of two elves and their family, fallen in the third war with the dedication written in the stone at their feet.

[I thought of you and the children today with love but that is nothing new

I thought of you yesterday and the days before too

I think of you and the children in silence as I often stare at your picture frames.

All I have left are your memories and your smiling faces framed.

Those memories are keepsake with which I’ll never part.

Forever yours as you’re always in my heart

-Your Husband ]

Never forget to honor the Sunwell.

Compendium of Light: Recorded Sunwell Poem

“You who have gathered here at the Sunwell today to pray, hear me.

I pray as all might be made as pure and proper to be as it is proper to do; as the Sunwell was restored and made pure.

Yet we have done impure deeds. We have have been battered and bruised, beaten and betrayed time and time again. But our people’s will is indomitable and we have endured time and time again. We have kept our lands and what is important to us safe. We return home exhausted and standing tall.

When the day is done, we return home to clean our armor and prepare for the next. But before the next day we purify ourselves in water. We wash the hands that hold our weapons, we wash the mouth that prays.

With the purification  of ourselves we can truly rest. And now we gather at the Sunwell to restore our strength anew, be inspired, and to gaze upon the most wondrous site on Azeroth. With the Sunwell restored and our people inspired we will impart this purity to each and to all, for now and for the future.”

At first I was skeptical about why the hell Lor’themar would want to oust any blood elves from his city, and felt like maybe it was a little out of character, but with the datamined voice lines, it seems like the Void Elves dabbling in their dark magic poses a severe threat against the Sunwell, to the point that he outright exiles everyone involved. And honestly? Valid. Fucking valid. I wholly understand his concern and why he’d do that now, and it’s such an interesting thing.

I wonder if it would cause more conflict with the other elves in Silvermoon. Will shadowpriests need to continue their practices behind closed doors? Is there a bias or schism forming between the people and how they view blood elves that aren’t void elves, but are dabbling in dark forces? It’s really fun to think about

I doubt it, there’s something that happens that makes this different from your traditional shadow priest. When Alleria went through her transformation she ended up consuming two incredibly powerful forces of the Void, one of which being a naaru itself, so I’m guessing before she goes on the pilgrimage to the Sunwell something happens to the Void Elves to mimic this transformation as well.

But it could also have to do with the fact that the Void Elves were delving into the research of Dar’khan Drathir himself, so as long as you’re not a traitor to the realm or eat the heart of a Void God I doubt you’ll get exiled.

I don’t like how they refer to Alleria as the person to master the void. Shadow Priests players are probably supposed to be the best.

Compendium of Light: Quel’thalas

tyleril-silversword:

Let us all pray for happiness
To love one another
to help each other
For us all to receive the Blessing of the Sunwell
To give us strength and fortitude
To withstand what Fate throws our way.
Let none of us hunger.
Or suffer

The Sunwell overflows with blessings for us all
May the Sunwell bless you.
May this blessing keep you safe when danger comes
May this blessing steady your hand
May this blessing comfort you when you are feeling low
May this blessing comfort you when you are weak.
May the Sunwell flow through you.
You are chosen, you are magic, you are blessed, you are Sin’dorei.
May the Sunwell’s sacred waters flow
forever in my heart

May Quel’thalas prosper
such is my greatest desire.
May my heart sing with ecstasy
at the sight of my home
May my life be an offering
for my home

May my heart bleed at the sight
Of the wretched, the poor, and the wounded
may I never become jaded to their suffering and pain

May I be there to show the path
to those seeking one
But if they should not hearken to me
May I have the patience to wait

The Sunwell surrounds us
The Sunwell flows through us
The Sunwell enfolds us
The Sunwell protects us
Wherever we are, so is the Sunwell
And all is well

The Light surrounds us
The Light Enfolds us
The Light Protects us
The Light watches over us
Wherever we are, the Light is
And all goes well.

If I am the present
Then you are the future
If I am beaten and broken
You are strong and ready to stand tall
If I grow bitter and jaded
May you grow wise and compassionate
My dearest child
I pray for a future you can thrive in

Grant, oh Sunwell, your protection
And in protection strength
and in strength, wisdom
and in wisdom, justice
and in justice, kindness
and out of kindness, love
And in that love, the love of all
The Sunwell and goodness
